Sen Foong

Sr. RFgen Consultant

Sen Foong Lau Ah Wing has been RFgen’s Senior SAP Consultant in Singapore since 2016. With more than 10-years’ experience working with SAP on implementation and support, and specializing in the areas of Purchasing, Manufacturing and Inventory Management, he’s an integral part of our team.

We recently sat down with Sen to get his inside perspective on what it’s like to work for RFgen and how he helps facilitate positive customer experiences each day.

What’s your role with RFgen?

I am part of the Professional Services team, one of the RFgen consultants specialized in the SAP ERP, and also the supervisor of the small but awesome team in the Singapore office.

How did you start in your core ERP specialty?

The first time I had hands-on experience in SAP was when I was still in university. I chanced upon an SAP introductory course taught by senior students during one of the summer vacations and I signed up. A couple of weeks after my graduation, my supervisor at the company where I did an industrial attachment a few semesters back called me to offer me a position as a full-time JAVA programmer. Out of a stroke of luck, he mentioned that the company just began implementing SAP and allowed me to join the SAP project and this is how it all began.

What does a typical day look like at RFgen for you?

On a typical day, I develop apps in the Mobile Foundations for SAP product for delivery to my customers. A good day is when there are issues faced and I get to learn new ways to get around the problem and make the customer say they really appreciate what we did for them.

Why do you like working at RFgen?

RFgen gives me the opportunity to use my technical skills and knowledge to develop applications to make life easy for our customers. The people at RFgen are fun and amazing.

What do you think makes you effective as an SAP consultant?

They say investing 1,000-hours at a task makes you an expert. SAP is consistently enhancing and developing its products, so the clock resets every now and then. Spending time reading up on SAP and getting my hands dirty with advanced troubleshooting helps me not lose sight of the beast of an ERP that it is evolving into.

What do you find most unique about the RFgen technology when it comes to educating your customers on how to use it most effectively?

Doing development in RFgen is very fast. A change in the code or the layout can be immediately seen on the app. I don’t think I can ever go back to any programming languages that require more than five seconds to compile codes after knowing a product like RFgen exists.

How do you overcome customer challenges?

Most challenges faced generally come either from the complexity of the requests and due to scope creep. I analyze the requests calmly and spend time explaining and providing recommendations to the customer.

Who are you outside of RFgen?

A dedicated husband, a playmate to my nephew and niece, and a very simple person.

A fun fact about you that is not common knowledge among your coworkers?

I still play old DOS games on DosBox emulators on my tablet and my favorite DOS game is “Masters of Magic”. But don’t be fooled by my nerdy looks. I used to be quite an avid soccer player before I became a husband!
