Those in the supply industry holding out on implementing the latest supply chain management software should consider the latest findings from a report indicating strong returns on investment for manufacturers choosing to adopt automated data collection and enterprise resource planning solutions.
Compiled by Constellation Research, the report analyzes the current adoption and investment trends for supply chain management systems and explores the benefits of advanced data gathering. Among the report's key findings is that supply chain management technology offers increasingly sophisticated capabilities at costs that allow even modest companies the opportunity to obtain the technology and its benefits.
"These days, even small and mid-size businesses have global supply chains and complex offshore manufacturing relationships," said Constellation's Frank Scavo, "so it's not surprising that our survey found supply chain management adoption increasing among smaller firms as well as larger organizations."
There are also some risks to consider before going ahead with a new supply chain management solution. Despite most suppliers stating their satisfaction with the ERP system transition, ComputerWorld Canada cited findings from a Panorama Consulting Solutions report showing that poor leadership oversight during the ERP transition and integration process has the potential for a supplier to endure cost overruns. In addition, a supplier needs to carefully manage the total cost of ownership of its supply chain management solution in order to achieve a robust ROI.
