A recent survey showed that many Oracle customers are not upgrading their ERP systems, but are delaying the process because they fear the task may be too lengthy and expensive. This is the case even though by delaying ERP updates, companies risk falling behind their competitors.
These fears about ERP upgrades are not validated by enterprises' actual experiences, a survey conducted earlier this year found. ZDNet reported that an Oracle study showed the upgrading process can be simple and fast. Nearly half of the survey respondents said a full upgrade took anywhere from six to 12 months, with some saying the process was complete within nine months. And for many of the respondents, interruptions to their normal business operations were minimal.
"However, a new survey of enterprise application managers finds that the vast majority of ERP upgrade efforts tend to be short in duration, fall within reasonable budgets, and rarely disrupt the business at large," the report stated. "Also contrary to perceptions, many ERP upgrades benefit the entire business, not just IT departments. Once properly executed, initiatives to improve and update ERP systems can be far reaching, providing enterprises with improved productivity, greater streamlining, and more robust capabilities for reaching out and serving new markets and constituencies."
About half of the respondents in the Oracle survey said they plan to update their ERP systems to include the latest technology over the course of the next two years, the article stated, and many are anxious to use the new functionalities. In fact, the majority (73 percent) said they don't think they have a choice but to upgrade their systems to stay in line with emerging technologies. About 40 percent said the new features of upgraded ERP solutions will encourage their company to go through the process.
Making upgrading even easier, RFgen’s Oracle-validated data collection software is version independent and does not install on your Oracle server or modify your environment, so there’s no hassle when it’s time to upgrade your Oracle ERP software.
